Welcome to the family
At Just Like Home, our teachers are like family. In fact, you are the core and the essence of our family business. So much of what we do is focused on ensuring that you feel empowered, inspired and truly cared for so that you can do what you do best of all - nurture the children in our community.
Is Your Heart in
Early Childhood Education?
As a teacher with Just Like Home, we intentionally bring together educators with the best hearts and minds to create magical places and experiences for children. When you join our family, we are committed to supporting your professional growth while providing you with what you need to operate as your own boss. Even though you work for yourself, regular professional development opportunities, team meetings and support from your visiting teacher are all part of the package with Just Like Home.

The learning centres on the child and what they bring to the table
Work of this nature gives you both the opportunity to develop your career and the flexibility to enjoy a work / life balance that suits you and your family.
Being self-employed gives you control over your earning potential and to set a rate that reflects your value.
Working from home offers you incredible IRD tax rebates. You might just be surprised how little tax you have to pay in a financial year!
If you have young ones at home, they can become part of your cohort of children you care for. This means you have more time with them while still being able to work.
Our teachers and educators are the heart of our business. We walk alongside you every step of the way, helping you to build a robust and sustainable business.
We take this part of our role seriously. We can help connect you with the right tools and resources to deepen and enhance your experience - Health & Safety Training, Professional Development and Business Support - you name it, we’ve got your back.
We are actively seeking educators and teachers in all areas of Central Otago, Hāwea, Luggate, Wānaka, Queenstown, Northern Southland and everywhere in between.
If you live in one of these places and feel called to do this warmhearted work, please
get in touch.
Two Pathways to Joining our Family
At Just Like Home we offer two options for becoming a home-based early childhood educator.
ONE: If you are already a qualified ECE or primary teacher your path to working with us is pretty straightforward. Since you have the necessary qualifications, we can get you started on creating a new way forward within the early childhood sector. If you decide to work in home-based care you will be able to retain your teacher registration active as category two under the Teaching Council guidelines.
TWO: If you are not qualified (minimum ECE L4 certificate) but are keen to become a home-based educator, we will support you to become qualified, free of charge. Yep, that’s right. You can begin your career change into early childhood education as you partake in a 19-week online L4 certificate training. This training will give you the foundation you need to enhance the qualities and skills you already have.
Does this call to you?
We are looking for people with kind hearts who love being in the presence of children and learning right alongside them. We truly believe that being with and supporting children in their early years is a fulfilling calling that must resonate deeply with you. Afterall, children deserve nothing less than our full presence and our whole heart.
When you join the JLH team, you will find our approach is holistic as we move gently, purposefully and with a shared long term goal of ensuring you feeling supported and empowered - both professionally and personally.
